Home Guides Large beach houses

Sleeps a crowd

What to check before you book a large Destin-area beach house

Bedrooms, an elevator that reaches them, two kitchens, parking, and a pool. The example is a gulf-front house in Miramar Beach that sleeps 24.

A listing can say it sleeps 24 and still put a third of the group on couches. For a reunion, a company retreat, or a pile of cousins, the useful questions are ordinary. Where does everyone actually sleep? Does the elevator reach those rooms? Can two meals happen at once? Where do the cars go?

Count beds, not the headline

Ask for the bedroom list. Seaclusion is the 5,700 square foot gulf-front house at 330 Tango Mar Drive, Miramar Beach, FL 32550, and the list is 9 bedrooms on three living floors. Two second-floor rooms are gulf-front kings with private balconies. The rest are more kings and queens, plus a bunk room with two twin-over-twin bunks. That inventory is how the house sleeps 24. The floor plans show which door is which, which matters when someone needs a room that closes.

Give the group more than one room to sit in

One living room becomes a bottleneck around day two. This house has two. The main room is on the first floor, with seating that faces the gulf. The second floor has another living space, with a futon, lounge chairs, and a TV. The TVs are smart TVs with access to your streaming accounts, so the week does not depend on one login. Outside, four covered decks and a covered patio with games take the overflow.

Two kitchens, and laundry that can keep up

One kitchen looks like enough until breakfast and a late lunch land on the same stove. The first-floor kitchen has KitchenAid appliances and the same gulf views as the living room, with a breakfast nook and a formal dining room beside it. The third floor has a full kitchen of its own, next to the primary suite. There are 7.5 bathrooms. Laundry is two laundry rooms, plus a washer and dryer in the primary closet. A group this size notices laundry before it notices the view.

The elevator stops short of the cars

Three stories is a lot of luggage. The in-home elevator serves floors 1โ€“3. It does not go to the parking level, so the stretch from the cars is a carry. Both elevator doors have to be closed or it will not run. The house tips have the short version of that. If someone in the group cannot do stairs at all, say so when you inquire. That parking-level gap is a real limit.

Parking for seven

If people are driving from different cities, seven spaces decide whether the first hour is a shuffle. Four bikes are included for the errands that should not move a car. The house is pet friendly, which is worth knowing before a dog arrives as a surprise.

Pool, hot tub, and the beach in front

A big house set back from the sand still means a daily trip to a public path. Seaclusion is gulf front in Miramar Beach. The private beach has a private boardwalk. The private pool and hot tub are on the gulf side. Complimentary beach chairs are available in season. The amenity list is the short version, and the gallery is the proof. Why that beach access matters on its own is the next note, along with why the house is in Miramar Beach instead of on the busier Destin sand.
